Educating
the youth of our county on the importance of maintaining and enhancing our
natural resources for their future is a key element in our volunteer programs.
Activities
are designed with a hands on approach to learning experiences that will develop
in our youth an appreciation for nature, gardening, and our local natural
resources. We are
available to work with you to develop a program to fit your youth group's
needs.
Worm
Composting
Forsyth
County Master Gardeners have worm bins available for your classroom. These worm
bins help teach students the benefits of composting, recycling and waste
reduction.
Our group
provides the worm bin, red wiggler worms, classroom activites and educational information
to help your students learn and appreciate the program.
For more
information on placing a worm bin in your classroom, contact Gordon Benson
through the Extension Office at 770-887-2418.
Library
Youth Program
The first
Children's Library program was held at the Cumming Library on October 8,
2011. The kids really were involved in each station of the "All
About Trees" program. They had lots of fund exploring all the neat
things to know about trees. This was the culmination of months of
planning and activity work days where a
core group of our gardeners readied interactive stations for the 20 kids (ages
5-12) that had signed up. Activities were
developed to encourage a new generation of gardeners.
The
program will be held again on October 22 at the Hampton Park Branch of the
Forsyth County Public Library system.
